A different kind of accessibility (or lack of)… RiP: A Remix Manifesto featuring Girl Talk

Last night I went to The Lyric to see the documentary on Girl Talk and “open source” copyright issues…called RiP: A Remix Manifesto, by Brett Gaylor.  It was interesting and worth watching, and it made me realize that accessibility issues come in all shapes and sizes.

First of all, for anyone not familiar with Girl Talk, [...]

Oxford Eagle continues coverage on disability issues

Because I’m feeling a bit of writer’s block–if that even exists for those who aren’t writers–I’m going to again defer to The Oxford Eagle to continue the current dialogue on  accessibility issues in Oxford, especially since they’re doing such a swell job!!
Thursday’s Eagle features two major articles on disability issues in the Oxford community.  The [...]

El Milagro Taqueria

It’s finally starting to sink in with me that Dino’s Pizza no longer exists.  It probably didn’t help that I had not visited the restaurant that currently occupies the building where Dino’s used to be, El Milagro, until about a week ago.  Located on the corner of Jackson and Hawthorn, it’s a pretty convenient location [...]

Oxford getting a Goodwill

Good news.  Goodwill Industries is setting up camp where Goody’s was previously located, near Wal-Mart.  This will open up some employment opportunities to Oxford and provide a nice little service.  They plan on opening near the end of July.  For more information you can visit The Daily Mississippian article.

Pictures from the aftermath of the weekend storms + a squirrel

I know by now you’ve seen a ton of scenes of fallen branches and storm damage, but I really just see this as an excuse to show off my new hammock.  Actually, the branches looked way bigger before my parents and I hauled all the smaller branches to the front yard.

And did you notice the [...]

Mississippi Storms–Part 1

Hey guys,
We had some crazy storms in Oxford and across the region over the weekend, eh? Later today I’ll post some pics of the huge branches that fell in our backyard. Wowza!

Handicap parking abuse a concern at Ole Miss

This morning’s Daily Mississippian had a front page article on the growing concern that some individuals are fraudulently gaining access to handicap tags or simply parking in handicap spaces regardless of whether they have a tag or not.  Click on the picture for a full sized image of the article and take a gander.
This problem [...]

Honest Abe’s Tamales and Donuts

Honest Abe’s is a fascinating place.  In fact, whenever we initially visited I almost forgot to check it out for accessibility because I got so distracted with…everything else.  And could you really expect anything less from a shop that sells donuts and tamales (AND po’ boys)?  It is conveniently located and has a drive through [...]
